 Description

Vizia is an assessment tool that engages students as they watch video content from YouTube. Videos are added to Vizia where the teacher is able to add a quiz, polls, responses, or a call to action. Setup is completed by going to the website and login using your Google account. The second step is to paste a YouTube URL and video with link to share are created. Students are sent a link and answers the tasks while watching the video. Students receive a link or a site with the embed video. While students watch the video the video will automatically pause when it arrives at a teacher selected question. Upon completion of the last task, responses are sent to a Google Sheet for data collection. Data can be analyzed using charts and statistics in Google Sheets.

 How it works

  1. 1. With a free Vizia account, all you need to get started is the link to the video you want to work with. Simply click New Video then paste the video link and click the Continue button.

  2. 2. Now, you’re ready to start adding elements by clicking on the timeline at the speific time you want to add the interactivity. After clicking the timeline you can choose from Quiz, Poll, Repsponse or Call to Action.

3. 3. When you’re finished adding all your interactive elements, you’ll want to take a look at the sharing options on the right and determine whether or not you want to collect the email addresses of anyone who views this video.

Ideas for using Vizia in learning and teaching

  • 1. Ask students to find a YouTube video relevant to their course and add interactive elements, then share it with their peers. This could be done via on a Padlet wall.

  • 2. Make a mini-lecture screencast and test students’ learning or gather questions from them at stages during the video. NTU/NIE Kaltura licenses My Media or you could try Screencastify or Screencast-o-matic to make your short video.

  • 3. Find a video relevant to your module and add questions and polls to get students thinking about how it relates to what you have discussed in class.
