 Description

Microsoft Immersive Reader is an interactive reading comprehension and learning tool. This tool makes text more accessible to learners of all ages and abilities. Using Microsoft Immersive Reader, you can have text read aloud at different speeds and by different voices, change text size, font, and spacing, highlight specific parts of speech (e.g., nouns, verbs), break apart words by syllables, translate text to more than 80 languages, hear audio recordings of the words spoken in different languages, and see words represented as pictures.
 
Microsoft Immersive Reader can be accessed through Microsoft Tools (e.g., Word, OneNote, Edge) and you can try it out for free on the Learning Tools page of the Microsoft website. This tool can be beneficial for students who are learning English as well as students with disabilities.


 How it works

These steps are for the free online version.
 
2. Go to the text box at the bottom and input any text.
3. Select the language of the text.
4. Then press “Try it Out.”
5. Clicking on the play button at the bottom of your screen will read the text aloud.
6. You can exit by pressing the arrow in the upper left hand corner.
7. In the upper right hand corner there are three symbols, each opening their own respective menus with various option

How to access Immersive Reader
 
Within Microsoft Word and Microsoft OneNote
Users can access Immersive Reader inside Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook by doing the following:
 
1. Click the "View" tab at the top of the screen
2. Click the "Learning Tools" button
3. Immersive Reader will open
 
 
Within Microsoft Outlook
Users can access Immersive Reader inside Microsoft Outlook by doing the following:
 
1. Open an email in Microsoft Outlook
2. Click on the "..." button to display more options
3. Click "Show Immersive Reader" on the bottom
4. Immersive Reader will open
 
 
Within Microsoft Edge
Users can access Immersive Reader inside Microsoft Edge by doing the following:
 
1. Open a website or document in Microsoft Edge
2. Click the book icon in the website address field
3. Immersive Reader will open
