 Description

Google Expeditions is an increasingly popular tool that enables immersive learning through the affordances of Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR, AR). Classroom teaching and experience can be enhanced with a Guide and Explorer mode, with a massive library of over 1000+ expeditions to choose from. Self-directed learning can also be enabled as the student can go on solo tours, and be engaged with the instructional materials provided for each scene in the expeditions. 


 Features
  • Start virtual reality tours with a single download and begin function
  • Augmented reality tours can be started with markers. Hotspots (point of interests) where teachers can direct student attention to
  • Visual views can be toggled between 360 view and VR headset view
  • Annotation function for teachers to write on the expeditions
  • Able to integrate with Google Tour Creator for uploading of self-created 360 environments

 Affordances
  • User can interact with the immense library content via Discover mode, thus enabling self-directed exploration.
  • Teachers can use the Guide mode to lead class on an expedition, which can be a platform for collaborative learning between learners.
  • Students can respond to Join Mode features whenever the teacher chooses them, such as annotations and point of interests.

 Educator Usage

The advent of immersive technologies in the 21st century such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality has revolutionised the way that people consume information. This has certainly caused impactful ramifications to teaching and learning in the classroom, where young learners expect to be immersed in visual and audio content when presented with novel information. Immersive learning will become even more ubiquitous, and teachers need to be future-proof their repertoire of skillsets to engage young minds.
