Make your audience feel more involved and motivated by letting them contribute to your presentations. Mentimeter shows the result live while your participants are voting with the web based mobile polling app directly in their browser, making sure everyone is part of the presentation. Create your first poll here, https://www.mentimeter.com.

To embed Mentimeter page in Powerpoint, follow the steps below:

1.Launch PPT

2. At Insert tab, look for 'My Add-ins"

3. Locate Web Viewer

4. Click 'insert'

5. Add the web URL

 Features
  • Mentimeter allows teachers to create image-based polls and quizzes for students to respond to on their phones, tablets, or laptops. Teachers can use the image-based quiz or poll option with multiple choice or open-response questions.
  • Mentimeter present live results and works seamlessly with Excel, letting you export the results from your presentation directly to a spreadsheet.
  • Choose from a series of question types (MCQ, Word Cloud, Scales, Who will win?) to engage student in real time.

 Affordances
  • Use the Mentimeter PowerPoint plugin, and get real-time input from your student.
  • Let your audience react to every slide and take interactivity to a new level.
  • Energize the audience with a fun and learning-intense competition using Mentimeter Quiz
  • Visualize your questions and let your audience vote on images to interact in a new way.

 Limitations
  • The Quiz has a temporary limitation and works best for medium-sized groups (20-50 participants).
  • As a free user, you can create up to 2 questions per presentation.
  • The code is a unique ID that is used for voting. If a presentation is not used for quite some time, the code will expire in 45 days.
  • You can only export results in excel format only if you upgrade your account.

 Educator Usage

Participants can input words to create a word cloud that will grow and expand as the audience submit their input. The word cloud is good to use when you do not already know what participants will vote for, and you want to emphasize the most popular words. It will look best when the answers are expected to be short - no more than a few words.

It is a good tool for collecting informal feedback from your students. You could use Mentimeter to ask students simple questions like, "do you feel ready for the quiz on Friday?". You can use that information to formulate your next lesson plan. Tools like Mentimeter are also good to use as exit ticket systems at the end of a class meeting.
